14 August marks the official start of “fair mode”
There are moments in Málaga that don’t need much explanation: the music starts, everyone looks up at the sky, someone says, “Shall we head into town?” and suddenly, we’re all in Fair mode.
Málaga Fair 2026 will officially take place from 15 to 22 August, but the celebrations start warming up the night before, on Friday 14 August, with the much-anticipated opening show. It’s that moment when Málaga looks to the sky, the night fills with light and music, and it becomes clear that the most intense week of the summer has just begun.
The Fair begins with the traditional music and fireworks show, one of those events you’ll want to experience at least once. Fireworks, music, street atmosphere and thousands of people looking for the best spot to watch it. It’s the perfect starting signal for a Fair that then unfolds across two main worlds: the Historic Centre, with its daytime atmosphere, music, terraces and streets full of life; and the Cortijo de Torres Fairground, where the party continues with casetas, rides, concerts and plans for all ages.
This year, the Fair also arrives with new visual features. The City Centre Fair will unveil a new entrance arch, one of those spots that will no doubt end up in hundreds of photos, stories and “first day of the Fair” videos. The official poster for this edition, “Flores para la Victoria”, has also been presented — an image with a distinctly Málaga feel that starts setting the mood even before the celebrations begin.
And, as with every proper Málaga Fair, there are also some familiar names in the spotlight. The opening speech will be delivered by Juan Francisco Funes, a coach linked to Málaga CF, while actress María Barranco will carry the Málaga flag during the traditional pilgrimage. Local touches like these are what make the Fair more than just a programme of events: they turn it into a celebration with its own identity.
Málaga Fair is exactly that: making plans without knowing quite where the day will take you, bumping into people you haven’t seen in months, hearing music on every corner, stopping for a bite to eat and saying “just for a little while” even though you probably know it won’t be just a little while.
And that’s exactly why it’s worth starting the plan the right way. If you’re heading into the centre to enjoy the opening show or the first days of the Fair, a very convenient option is to park at Málaga Plaza Shopping Centre Parking, just a short walk from the city centre. You arrive, leave the car in a great location, and forget about driving around just when you’d rather be doing something else: walking out and letting Málaga do the rest.
Because the Fair is much better when it doesn’t start with looking for parking, but with excitement, good atmosphere and the first part of the day already sorted.
